About the house

Photobucket

My house was originally built on the same lot as the fourplex next door and by the same person. He built this 1/1 650 S.F. house in 1921 on a large lot. The next year he decided to build the fourplex on the corner part of the lot. The house was typical for any budget bungalow of the time - white built in cabinets in the kitchen, bedroom and bath. 1/4"x2" Oak floors in the living room and bedroom. 2 closets in the bedroom (for a married couple). Linoleum floors in the kitchen and a sink closet of the kitchen (?).
About 8 years ago a house-flipper bought the lot and tried to do a quick and dirty flip with the the two houses on the lot. They split the lot (never got final signatures) and started to try to develop the 7' unfinished basement into another bed and bathroom. They put crappy fake engineered hardwood in the kitchen (poorly) and had some chinese cabinets stacked up in one corner ready to go. The developments in the basement were very poorly built without permit and had to be completely ripped out. So here I am with not much left of a 1/1 bungalow that needs work EVERYWHERE. I buy the house in March 2010, move in and begin complete remodel

time to start blogging

Hello. Anyone out there? I decided to start recording my home remodel process on my small 1921 stucco california bungalow which is in serious disrepair. As if living and working in my house all day every day wasn't enough...
